Background
CXC has partnered with this client since 2018 to manage and payroll a tranche of contractors.
Challenge
In 2022, this client needed to undertake significant recruitment activity. In part, this was due to their contribution to a project that involved bringing together energy stakeholders across the country to transform Australia’s electricity market design to move towards net zero emissions and renewable energy by 2025. For this client, this is the most comprehensive reform since it was started in 1998.
To support the program and tandem projects, they required an additional 150 roles filled. To meet the demand in requisitions, they required additional recruitment support for both permanent and contract positions.
Solution
To supplement our clients’ talent acquisition teams, CXC offers a Recruiter on Demand solution to assist during peak recruitment periods or when current recruitment team is at capacity.
We provided our Talent Partner Miriam Harniess to work within the internal talent acquisition team for a period of three months, recruiting permanent, fixed-term contract, and contingent roles. Initially, Miriam managed recruitment for the digital division but soon branched out to support all other business units, including operations, reform delivery, system design, and government. She also led the strategy and recruitment for the reform project.
Additionally, Miriam customised the process for when a contractor finishes at the client. Specifically, this involved automating email communications to go directly to hiring managers, ensuring there was no missed information. Hiring managers now have a full overview of their contractor’s rates, so they can better manage their budgets and have an understanding of when their workers were due for an extension.
Results
Miriam was consistently able to work on around 30 requisitions each day, dramatically assisting with the large volume of activity and mitigating the burden on the talent acquisition team.
She was able to make over 26 placements, including:
· Engineers (all levels up to specialist)
· Solution Architects
· Communication Advisor/Manager
· Senior Web Advisor
· Four Manager positions in the Forecasting Department
· Power Systems Engineer
· Business Analyst
· Stakeholder Engagement Manager
· Principal Stakeholder Advisor
· Energy Analyst
· Operations Analyst
· Data Analyst
· Azure Cloud Architect
· Project Managers
· Change Managers
Miriam has also received praise for her performance during this time:
“At the start of our recent recruitment drive I put forward two roles in my team and three positions in the solution architecture team, which is quite a large demand for recruitment. Miriam Harniess was really helpful in defining all the recruitment requirements for the roles, setting up the advertising campaign, and organising interviews.
Miriam on numerous occasions had to constantly follow up with candidates, organise and sometimes re-schedule interviews, discuss offers, and sometimes remind me of something I may have forgotten to complete. Despite my numerous questions and requesting help and guidance in completing the required paperwork, the team have always been there to help. The team have been very professional, ensured that our recruitment drive was very successful and a pleasure to work with.”
Enterprise Infrastructure Architecture and Design Manager
“Considering the amount of pipeline work, (like any other department) we are under tremendous pressure to complete recruitment of 3 Solution Architect roles. I know the recruitment team is also under pressure due to the number of roles advertised.
I must acknowledge Miriam has been outstanding in providing prompt assistance, advice and a thorough follow-up. I really appreciate her effort is acknowledged as part of staff recognition process.”
